Many major airlines travel to and from the airport, including Air Canada, Air North, Air Transa, America West, Canadian North, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. Regular flights are available from Edmonton to a number of cities in Canada, such as Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver, together with connections to prominent US airports, including Seattle and Minneapolis / St. Paul airports. Close to the downtown district, Edmonton City Center Airport (YXD) is a smaller airport, just 2 miles / 3 km from the city. This airport is used by a mixture of commuter airlines and numerous private planes.

Operated by the Edmonton Transit System (ETS), bus transport in Edmonton is a cheap and reliable way to travel around the city. A short ten-stop tram network is also available in central Edmonton. The streets feature many blue and white bus stops, with route schedules readily available. Greyhound coach transport is also available in Edmonton and connects the city to the whole of North America. Edmonton's bus station is situated along 103rd Street, in the downtown district.

The city of Edmonton is served by regular VIA Rail passenger trains, with the station being located close to the City Center Airport. This service has become less popular following the extensive network provided by the Light Rail Transit, although VIA Rail transport does connect Edmonton with much of Canada, including many major cities, such as Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

The Edmonton Light Rail Transit network is extremely popular with both locals and visitors, offering inexpensive travel to a variety of central locations. Regular trains run northeasterly from the University of Alberta, easterly from Jasper Avenue, and northerly along 99th Street, right up to 139th Street in the Clareview area. Carrying upwards of 40,000 passengers each day, these electric trains travel both above and below ground, with ten stations along the way.
